• Why does my bulldog Lola like to take naps in our fire pit, particularly when we’ve just had a fire and it’s dangerously hot? It doesn’t make sense that she wants to sleep on the hot ashes in the middle of summer.

I may not be book smart or street smart. But I know my way around campfires. Lola wants to be alone. There are times when a dog gets tired of being petted or scratched or used to wipe grease off your hands when you don’t have a towel. It’s worth a little heat just to get away.

I do this myself, especially when Toby and his pals try to trick me into things, like chasing hot marshmallows. I think Lola and me got a lot in common.

By the way, has Lola been fixed? I can’t tell from the photo.
